Mission Statement
The major goal of the Cultural Resources Department is to maintain, preserve and protect Samish collections according to Samish Nation and professional standards. The Samish Cultural Resources Department (SCRD) contains significant historical and cultural information comprising a valuable resource that impacts nearly every Samish program and member.
Description
The Cultural Resources Department holds the Samish Indian Nation archival records and archaeological collections and conducts research for the administration, Tribal Council and the Tribe’s attorneys. The community, Tribal members and students are able to research selected materials located at the Cultural Resources Department office. The Cultural Resources Staff strives to protect and preserve Samish archaeological and cultural resources by working with federal, state, and local agencies in addition to individual property owners.

The Cultural Resources Department is open 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday, excluding holidays. Research requests are by appointment only; please schedule at least 24 hours in advance if possible.
DONATIONS
The Cultural Resources Department accepts donations of records, photographs, educational materials, audio materials, artifacts, and other materials that relate to the history and culture of the Samish people. Please contact us if you have information pertaining to the history and culture of the Samish or would like to donate items. All materials considered for donation will be reviewed and analyzed by department staff to determine whether they meet the mission and qualities for inclusion in the collections. This review does not constitute the acceptance of a donation until finalized between the Donor and the SCRD.
