MUSEUM OFFERS CURATORIAL RESIDENCY

The National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) is seeking applications for a one-year paid residency for entry-level Native American museum professionals interested in pursuing museum careers or those early in established careers who feel they would benefit from a residency at NMAI. Applications for the first round are due by Jan. 15, 2012. NMAI will notify the successful candidate by Feb. 1, and work will commence the 3rd week of March 2012. The residency may be extended for a second year based upon exemplary performance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to the museum profession through academic preparation, experience with paid or volunteer work at museums or community cultural centers, experience with exhibitions and/or collections research, and/or a track record of community-based scholarship.  The Curatorial Resident will join the staff of NMAI’s Museum Scholarship group in exhibition development and/or collections research projects.

Applications should include a complete curriculum vitae or professional resume; an essay of no more than 1200 words describing the candidate’s career goals for museum work; what the candidate hopes to gain from the residency experience; and why the NMAI in particular can play an important role in the candidate’s career development; and a letter of support from an academic or community-based sponsor or mentor.  Consideration will be given to candidates who can demonstrate how their experience will benefit their communities.

Send applications to Patricia Scott, Cultural Resources Center, 4220 Silver Hill Road, Suitland, MD 20746-2863. For queries email David W. Penney at penneyd@si.edu .

The University of Washington School of Nursing and University of Washington Medical Center are excited to be offering UW Nurse Camp 2012 from June 25-29, 2012.  This will be the 4th year of this nursing-specific day camp program for high school sophomores and juniors.  The past 3 years were a tremendous success.  Each year, stellar campers spent the week getting introduced to nurses, faculty, students and staff at the UW, along with our community partners.  They got CPR training, spent a few days at the UWMC in actual clinical experiences, and spent the week in sessions on workshops geared toward preparing them for what to expect in college.

Information below, along with the link to our website that includes the application and how to apply, details on activities and unique experiences offered in the camp, as well as quotes and photos from last year’s UW Nurse Camp.

Please help us get the word out to  minority/underrepresented high school sophomores and juniors.  If you have contacts with high school teachers, parents and guidance counselors, please forward to them.

The deadline to apply is April  16.
