The mission of the Samish Indian Nation Natural Resource Department is to preserve, protect and enhance all natural resources within the Samish historical and cultural territory by helping integrate community values, and ecosystem health in every decision that upholds the Tribes Sovereign right for protection of all natural resources.
Here is a report on the history and ecology of Secret Harbor on Cypress Island, Washington State. The report was put together by Abe Loyd, the director of Salal, the Cascadian Food Institute. It was sponsored by the Samish Indian Nation Department of Natural Resources to be in conjunction with a restoration effort between Samish and Washington State DNR at Secret Harbor. There is lots of great history of Samish presence in the early history of this little harbor on Cypress Island. Enjoy.
Check out a new video produced by our department and presented to an international audience at the 2013 Society for Ecological Restoration Conference in Madison WI.
