Annual - Tobacco-Free 5k Fun Run/1 Mile Walk

The 2017 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk will start and stop at the Fidalgo Bay Resort.  The run and walk will take place on the Tommy Thompson Trail.  The 5k Run starts at 11:00 a.m. is an out and back route and will head west.  The 1 Mile Walk starts at 11:15 a.m. is out and back and will head east.  The course for the Run and the Walk are certified and chip timed by BuDu Racing.  Parking is available at the Fidalgo Bay Resort.

Awards and Extras:

The top 3 male and top female finishers in the 5k Run and 1 Mile Walk will receive award ribbons and Tobacco Awareness and Prevention Medals.

All participants receive:

  • a commemorative t-shirt water bottle
  • pedometer
  • healthy snacks
  • outreach materials on tobacco awareness and prevention.   

Samish Tobacco Prevention & Cessation Campaign

The Samish Tobacco-Free 5k Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk is a tribal and community-wide event promoting healthy tobacco free lifestyle choices that will reduce the risk of developing cancer-related health problems and diseases from smoking.  Preventing tobacco use and helping those who use tobacco can improve the health and quality of life for Native Americans and people of all ages.  The 2017 5k Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Northwest Tribal Cancer Control Project, and the Samish Indian Nation.
