COURSE COMPLETION INCENTIVE PROGRAM
POLICIES & PURPOSE
The Samish Indian Nation views higher education opportunities as a top priority for its members and is fully committed to providing opportunities to pursue higher education to the fullest extent possible. Funds are appropriated by Congress, then administered by the Samish Indian Nation, to aid Indian students who remain in financial need after all other sources of financial aid have been applied.
The Course Completion Incentive Program is designed to encourage Samish members to pursue training, even on a course by course basis, by providing a $100 Course Completion Incentive paid to them directly after completion of the course.
Applicants must me enrolled members of the Samish Tribe. Samish students attending higher education and receiving the Samish Scholarship are also eligible to apply for the Course Completion Incentive Program. Samish High School Students enrolled in the Running Start program where they will receive an Associates Degree as well as their high school Diploma upon graduation are also eligible for the Course Completion Incentive Program.
PROCESS TO APPLY
Applicants must complete the Course Completion Incentive Request and submit it to the Education Manager with proof of successful completion of the qualified course. This award is available once per quarter no matter how many classes are completed.
An applicant who has completed an assistance application and is denied funding may within 5 days of receiving notice of denial, appeal to the Samish Indian Nation Appeals Board. The appeal must be in writing, addressed to the Appeals Board, and set forth the reason(s) why the applicant is appealing the decision.
The Appeals Board will meet to review the case, according to the Samish Indian Nation Appeals process. A final appeal, if the decision by the Appeals Board is unsatisfactory to the applicant, may be made to the Tribal Council. The decision of the Tribal Council will be final, and the applicant will be provided a written explanation regarding the basis on which the decision was made.
