Client Support Specialist

$22.27 - $29.94 per hour, FLSA Non-Exempt
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday with some weekend and evening work

The Client Support Specialist will help families and individuals identify all housing barriers for the client’s success and develop an individualized Housing Stabilization Plan to help counsel the client in the skills needed to address those internal barriers and to help the client access the resources available to overcome those barriers. The Client Support Specialist duties will include shuttle services for our weekly Cultural events, and input client driven data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

Principle Duties
  1. Provide clients with information and referrals to assist with their stabilization process from previously being homeless
  2. Assist clients access needed resources by having knowledge of and positive professional relationships with community programs and service providers, including but not limited to: employment services, education programs such as GED courses, parenting classes, vocational rehabilitation/retraining, mental health services, medical and dental services, senior services, drug and alcohol treatment centers, domestic violence resources, consumer credit and budgeting classes, food banks, etc.
  3. Assist clients in discovering and creating community and natural support systems, including shuttle transportation to weekly Cultural gatherings as relevant
  4. Use progressive engagement with clients utilizing skills of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing and strength-based coaching.Provide the appropriate level of services, starting with the least intensive service and increasing service level as needed
  5. Help each household develop a Housing Stabilization Plan which is a partnership between the household and the Client Support Specialist and follow up through regular appointments to assure stability and progress.Utilize creative thinking and problem-solving techniques
  6. Work with clients to assure lease requirements are fulfilled, tenant pays rent in timely manner and encourage positive renter behavior.Mediate with landlords as necessary to help tenant maintain housing
  7. Develop pathways for clients to increase their ability to communicate on a regular basis with their landlords on their own behalf
  8. Maintain client files and other required records, including accurate progress notes
  9. Maintain an integral relationship with other housing staff and be an active team member
  10. Participate in a team-oriented approach by attending housing team meetings, partner and staff meetings
  11. Proficiency in maintaining accurate client records in HMIS, the client tracking software application used by the Housing Department
  12. Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services or related field plus direct service experience in case management or related duties OR 4 years direct service experience in case management or related duties
  2. Effective human services skill such as coaching, mentoring, client motivation and tracking of such services required
  3. Knowledge of human services
  4. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of families/individual experience and at risk of homelessness
  5. Highly organized with a strong attention to detail and data integrity
  6. Ability to write clear and concise narratives
  7. Self-directed and motivated to set own deadlines and follow directions
  8. Effective team player
  9. Computer literacy (Word and Excel preferred).Ability to use internet search engines and social networking sites
  10. Support and contribute to a creative, collaborative and respectful work environment that promotes teamwork
  11. Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in multi-cultural situations
Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Frequent periods of sitting, including driving (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 20lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, typing, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Occasionally work involves disturbing and emotional subject matter, requiring strong mental and emotional stamina. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination.  Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Working environment will may vary day to day. Sometimes works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Regular vehicular travel on highways and roads. Regular interaction with high-risk clients including home visits that may be unaccompanied. Work requires minimal risks which require safety precautions (using some cleaning chemicals for light cleaning). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.)
