Description

The Facilities Technician is responsible for construction, preventative maintenance, repair and remodeling of all Samish Indian Nation buildings, facilities and equipment. This position will assist with the development of short, and long-term plans for maintenance and repair of tribal property to include buildings and vehicles. The Facilities Technician ensures buildings are maintained in a safe condition and in compliance with applicable codes and prepares and maintain records related to worked performed. Additionally, the position oversees the performance of outside vendors for maintenance services and construction projects and acts as a general contractor for construction and renovation projects, ensuring the adherence to safe work practices.

Principle Duties
  1. Perform semi-skilled to skilled construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of tribal buildings, facilities, and equipment in a variety of trades including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sheetrock, basic concrete work; ensure buildings are maintained in a safe and aesthetically pleasing condition
  2. Install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and waste disposal systems including but not limited to plastic, copper, and galvanized piping; install and maintain toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, decorative fountains, water heaters and new water supply lines
  3. Install, maintain, and repair building structures, machinery, and fixtures such as partitions, doors, cabinets, windows, electrical switches, and fixtures
  4. Install, troubleshoot and repair minor electrical fixtures, switches, receptacles, fans, systems, filters in heating systems and other installations; lubricate, adjust and repair electrical equipment
  5. Install doors, wall paneling, wall partitions, ceilings and windows; construct and install cabinets and shelves; build walls and hang doors and paneling; install, inspect and repair roofing
  6. Frame, install, tape, finish and texture sheetrock, drywall and other wall construction materials; remodel office areas; remove, relocate and construct walls
  7. Prepare surfaces for painting; mix, blend and apply paint to match or cover walls, ceilings, furniture, cabinets and other interior and exterior surfaces; perform touch-up painting; erect, rig and move scaffolding and platforms
  8. Maintain records related to work performed and meet established project schedules and timelines
  9. Effectively estimate adequate amounts of time, labor and materials for project completion
  10. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or GED. Completions of vocational training program(s) in a building maintenance field is preferred and may be substituted for one year of work experience
  2. Four years of related experience in construction, carpentry, facility repair and maintenance, or general contracting
  3. Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in building and mechanical maintenance and repair work, and in the maintenance of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems
  4. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  5. Must be able work independently with little direction, understand and follow oral and written directions, and work cooperatively with others
  6. Must possess knowledge of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in a variety of construction and building maintenance trades
  7. Must understand operation and proper maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery used in the building trades
  8. Must understand basic construction and remodeling methods and techniques.
  9. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Long periods of standing, frequent walking over rough or uneven surfaces required (40% of time). Regular bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing (40% of time), and occasional sitting (20% of time). Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to: manipulate cleaning supplies and equipment, tools, power tools, and operate maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination. Working Environment: Sometimes working outside in various weather conditions. Work environment varies on a daily basis. Occasionally works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work requires moderate risks which require safety precautions (working around moving parts, chemicals, machines, etc.). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.)
