The Information Technology Systems Specialist is responsible for working with staff and Tribal Council to assist with the operation and functionality of software applications used at the Samish Indian Nation. Other responsibilities include enhancing existing software beyond the provisions of the software vendor or creating new software to meet departments’ needs. The IT Systems Specialist will assist in streamlining and automating the Tribes business processes and in general computer support. The IT Systems Specialist will work closely with the IT Director on information systems development.

Principle Duties
  1. Monitors and maintains business processes within the Tribe’s enterprise content management system
  2. Works with departments to develop new business processes, and maintains those processes throughout the business process lifecycle
  3. Develops web applications and custom modules for the Tribe content management system
  4. Assists the IT staff in writing custom scripts or applications as necessary
  5. Provides help desk technician support to staff, resolving computer problems and diagnosing issues; receives and records trouble reports from staff and maintains service logs
  6. Analyzes and makes recommendations on the acquisition and use of new information systems technology, including hardware and software
  7. Respond to customer support tickets, requests, and inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  8. Create detailed documentation on any custom software or business process
  9. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. Software application development experience (web and/or desktop applications)
  2. UI development experience (HTML5, JavaScript, WinForms, VB, Java, etc.)
  3. Experience with C#, C++, Java and/or VB
  4. SQL database development experience (SQL Server, MySql, etc.)
  5. Understanding of object-oriented programming, patterns, data structures and algorithms
  6. Ability to learn and apply new software engineering skills
  7. Good analytical and debugging skills
  8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, and Outlook
  9. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  10. Flexibility to travel or work outside of normal business hours for research and projects
  11. Possess high levels of integrity and initiative
  12. Must be approachable and an effective team player or member
  13. Must be able to lift/carry up to 20lbs

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  2. 1 to 2 years in professional software engineering or related
  3. Experience with Laserfiche Avante, Workflow, and Forms
  4. Experience with regular expressions, Business Process Model and Notation (“BPMN”)
  5. Experience with website content management systems
Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 20lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, typing, cash-handling, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination. Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Must sit or stand at the desk for the majority of shift. Occasionally works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work requires minimal risks which require safety precautions (using some cleaning chemicals for light cleaning). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.)
