Description

The Library Assistant checks books in and out, re-shelves books, and catalogs new books and resources into the Dewey Decimal System and ResourceMate. This position creates seasonal displays to highlight books and writes quarterly library book features for the newsletter and website. The Library Clerk also keeps the library tidy, accessible, and inviting.

Principle Duties
  1. Assists library patrons to find books or resources and aids them in the use of the public computer and printer
  2. Using ResourceMate, checks books in and out to patrons, shelves the books in a timely manner, and keeps the stacks in order
  3. Catalogs new books and resources into the Dewey Decimal System and enters those books into ResourceMate
  4. Creates seasonal displays in the library to highlight different books and writes quarterly library book features for the newsletter and website
  5. Keeps the library tidy, accessible, and inviting
  6. Tracks books in circulation and maintains a list of lost books
  7. Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  2. Experience with library filing systems and operations
  3. Must have moderate computer skills with knowledge of MS Office and e-file management
  4. Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  5. Must be able to lift 30lbs
Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 50lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, typing, filing, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone. Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination. Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Occasionally works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work requires minimal risks that may include lifting archival files and boxes.
