First Review:

The Language Resource Development Specialist is responsible for the administrative work for the Xws7ámeshqen (Language) Program. The Resource Development Specialist analyzes and improve office processes and policies, ensures that the office operates smoothly, and performs other general office functions and related work as required.

Principle Duties
  1. Learns and disseminates Xws7ámeshqen
  2. Triage the phone, provides information, and receives information concerning matters related to the Xws7ámeshqen Program. Makes telephone referrals, takes messages, and directs incoming calls to the appropriate staff member
  3. Receives tribal members and visitors, and responds to all requests for language materials
  4. Performs research for projects for the Xws7ámeshqen Program Manager as requested
  5. Duplicates, collates, and prepares language material packets in preparation for requests by tribal members
  6. Assists Xws7ámeshqen Program Manager in the creation of language resources
  7. Attends necessary trainings approved by supervisor
  8. Attends necessary Samish internal trainings
  9. Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. Employee must pass a proficiency exam set with Samish Language Program standards by the end of the year one period of employment with the Language Program or will no longer be able to work for the program
  2. Must be an enrolled Samish tribal member
  3. Self-motivated to learn Xws7ámeshqen
  4. High School Diploma or GED (Associate’s Degree preferred). Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  5. Basic knowledge of modern office practices and procedures and the use of office machines and equipment
  6. Basic computer and word processing skills
  7. Experience in modern office procedures and office equipment, i.e. (Copying machine, computers, fax, internet, etc.)
  8. Willing and able to work flexible hours if requested
  9. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with supervisory personnel, co-workers, and the general public
  10. Ability to project a positive, concerning image to the public
  11. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  12. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the minimum insurance requirements
  13. Must have or obtain within 6-8 weeks of hire the necessary documents (passport or enhanced driver’s license) to travel between USA & Canada without restrictions
Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Frequent periods of sitting, including driving (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 20lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, typing, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Occasionally work involves disturbing and emotional subject matter, requiring strong mental and emotional stamina. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination.  Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Working environment will may vary day to day. Sometimes works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Regular vehicular travel on highways and roads. Regular interaction with high-risk clients including home visits that may be unaccompanied. Work requires minimal risks which require safety precautions (using some cleaning chemicals for light cleaning). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.)
