The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Associate provides para-professional support to Vocational Rehabilitation counselor(s) and the Vocational Rehabilitation Director by performing on-going assignments with focus on substantive technical aspects of vocational rehabilitation client services. The position is also responsible for a caseload of clients.

Principle Duties
  1. Orients applicants on the vocational rehabilitation process and addresses client concerns; In consultation with vocational rehabilitation team members, reviews client progress and case file activities to assess problems and make follow-up contacts
  2. Works with counselor(s) and director to determine eligibility of individuals with disabilities for rehabilitation services
  3. Conducts intake interviews, gathering information on the client’s family history, education, medical history, etc.
  4. Performs caseload management for a caseload of disabled clients ranging from moderate to severe under the supervision of the Vocational Rehabilitation Director including the development of IPEs
  5. Administers and monitors vocational assessment and exploration devices
  6. Researches information on local and regional labor markets, occupations, and assistive technology in order to provide information on occupational choices to clients
  7. Responds to requests for information from clients and staff on a wide variety of vocational rehabilitation topics such as assistive technology training opportunities and labor market information
  8. Provides administrative support to the vocational rehabilitation team
  9. Attends outreach events to inform potential clients and other organizations about the program
  10. Attends networking events to establish a relationship with local businesses and job opportunities for clients
  11. Attends training designed to further expand the knowledge of the VR processes in order to better perform the duties of the position
  12. Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  1. Must possess a high school diploma or GED and two years of experience of independently performing a variety of clerical assignments
  2. Must be knowledgeable in the area of issues that are specific to the social, vocational, and employment challenges encountered by Native Americans
  3. Must have experience or familiarity with vocational rehabilitation process
  4. Must have ability to independently provide technical support and assistance to the Vocational Rehabilitation team by advising clients and consumers on subject areas not requiring professional counseling skills
  5. Must have the ability to develop innovative solutions for providing rehabilitation services

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Two years of college from an accredited institution with a social or behavioral science major or a closely related field.
Working Conditions

Physical Demands
: Long periods of sitting (60% of time); occasional bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, and pushing (20% of time); and occasional standing and walking (20% of time). Occasionally lifts/carries up to 20lbs. Must possess manual dexterity sufficient to use office equipment with frequent repetitive motion such as writing, typing, paperwork-handling, and phone use. Must possess the ability to view print on a computer screen and/or paper document; the ability to speak and hear exchanging information with end users by telephone Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination. Working Environment: Work environment is mainly indoors with heat and some air conditioning. Must sit or stand at the front desk for the majority of shift. Occasionally works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work requires minimal risks which require safety precautions (using some cleaning chemicals for light cleaning). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.)
