2018 Tribal Council Elections


  1. Be an enrolled member of the Samish Indian Nation; and
  2. Be 21 years of age or older on the annual General  Council Meeting (June 24, 2018); and
  3. Have resided in the State of Washington for at least   one year immediately preceding the election; and
  4. Be the only member of the household who is running for office in this election or any subsequent election.

Petition for Candidacy for Tribal Council Elections to be held on June 24, 2018:
On a form to be provided by the Election Board, you must file a petition of candidacy signed by at least ten (10) enrolled members of the Samish Indian Nation who are eligible to vote. Petition of candidacy forms must be received via United States Postal Service no later than close of business on May 10, 2018. Mail to:

Candidacy Petition Forms can be obtained at the Samish Administration Office or downloaded from this page.
Any candidate who wants to provide a statement for publication in the 2018 Voters Pamphlet should also submit to the Election Board a candidacy statement not to exceed 300 words and an optional digital photo along with their petition of candidacy.   


The petition of candidacy forms and any related candidacy statements (including digital photos for the voter pamphlets) will be collected by Pat Dunn, Election Superintendent by close of business day on May 10th, 2018. Candidates are encouraged to email a photograph rather than send a hard copy to ensure higher quality voter pamphlet images. Peggy Waters and Roger Hansen are the other members of the 2018 Election Board.

Samish Indian Nation is having our 2018 elections contractor, MK Elections Services, LLC send absentee ballots to each eligible voter in the Tribe.

In person voting will still take place as usual under the   oversight of the Election Board and with the technical assistance of MK Elections Services, LLC at the General Council Meeting to be held:

April 9th—Candidacy Petition Forms Available 
May 10th—Candidacy Petitions and Statements are due by close of business 
May 11th—Validation of Eligible Candidates by  Election Board 
May 24th—Voter pamphlets and ballots mailed  
June 23rd—Mailed ballots collected from PO Box by MK Elections, LLC & Election board by 1 pm 
June 24th—Polls open for in person voting   (8 am to 12 pm) 
June 24th—All ballots opened and counted by MK Elections, LLC & Election Board (12 pm) 
June 24th—Election Superintendent Certifies Election, Posts Results, and Swears in Council
