Description

The Facilities Technician I is responsible for assisting the Facilities and Maintenance Team with janitorial services, construction, preventative maintenance, repair and remodeling of all Samish Indian Nation buildings, facilities and equipment as well as vehicle fleet maintenance. The Facilities Technician ensures buildings are maintained in a clean, safe condition and in compliance with applicable codes and prepares and maintains records related to worked performed.

Principle Duties
  1. Performs regular janitorial maintenance at all Samish Facilities including but not limited to: disinfect, clean, sanitize and stock restrooms, dust and wipe furniture, sweep, mop or vacuum floors, empty trash and recycle containers. Perform regular exterior trash removal to keep the properties presentable.
  2. Assist Facilities and Maintenance Team with minor maintenance projects such as maintain plumbing fixtures, building improvements, replace filters in heating systems, maintain lighting by replacing bulbs in office and exterior locations, and other maintenance activities.
  3. Assist Facilities and Maintenance Team to finish and texture sheetrock and prepare surfaces for painting; mix, blend and apply paint to match or cover walls, ceilings, furniture, cabinets and other interior and exterior surfaces; perform touch-up painting; erect, rig and move scaffolding and platforms.
  4. Clean gutters and roofs as needed using approved safety techniques and appropriate ladders for access.  Wash windows and perform power washing as needed including sidewalks and parking area. 
  5. Landscape maintenance such as mowing lawns, trimming brushes, and weeding planters.
  6. Reports safety and maintenance problems to the Planning Senior Director. Aids in completing inventories of supplies and building inspections.
  7. Maintain records related to work performed and meet established project schedules and timeline.
  8. Assists with the operation and tracking of the Samish Maintenance Ticket System.
  9. Assists with vehicle fleet maintenance by transporting vehicles for service appointments, detailing appointments etc.
  10. Participate in snow removal up to 50 feet from buildings and apply ice melting substances to walkways, pathways, patios, sidewalks, and stairs.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or GED. Completions of vocational training program(s) in a building maintenance field is preferred and may be substituted for one year of work experience
  2. General experience in facility repair and maintenance, landscaping, janitorial services, or fleet management
  3. Knowledge of the materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in building maintenance and repair work and janitorial work. Knowledge of tools used in landscape maintenance
  4. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  5. Must be able work independently with little direction, understand and follow oral and written directions, and work cooperatively with others as a team
  6. Must possess general knowledge of standard tools, equipment, materials, methods and techniques used in a variety of construction and building maintenance trades
  7. Must understand operation and proper maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery used in the building trades
  8. Must be comfortable working in ladders and on roof tops with proper safety protocols
  9. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

Working Conditions

Physical Demands: Long periods of standing, frequent walking over rough or uneven surfaces required (40% of time). Regular bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing (40% of time), and occasional sitting (20% of time). Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to: manipulate cleaning supplies and equipment, tools, power tools, and operate maintenance equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers. Mental/Visual Demands: Frequent mental and/or visual attention to task is required. Occasionally work requires heavy concentration. Frequent interruptions. Tasks involve eye-hand coordination. Working Environment: Sometimes working outside in various weather conditions. Work environment varies on a daily basis. Occasionally works alone without benefit of supervisor or co-worker. Unavoidable hazards/risks: Work requires moderate risks which require safety precautions (working around moving parts, chemicals, machines, etc.). Protective clothing or equipment may be required (goggles, gloves, masks, boots, etc.) Random drug tests may be performed.
